Virtue Ethics

Virtue ethics focuses on a grounding virtues, or virtues in one’s character. All of the ethical theories have some grounding in virtues but they examine them from different angles.  The virtue ethics angle focuses on the character inherent in the choices.

What does this mean for AI? This one is a bit less clear than the other two major theories we examine because an AI (at least not yet) does not have “character” or “wisdom” to draw from. Instead, I would argue that comes from the creators of the AI system.  We will discuss this more in day 1 of class.
