Encoding Values
How do we encode a value system into AI?
How do you encode values into your AI methods and systems? We have touched on this throughout the course but today’s readings focus on this specifically.
Assignment 1
Today we will choose from a larger list of papers. As with the previous papers, you will need to sign up and provide a summary.
- A Human Rights-Based Approach to Responsible AI
- Artificial Intelligence, Values, and Alignment
- (Re)Conceptualizing trustworthy AI: A foundation for change
- The Values Encoded in Machine Learning Research
- Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence: A Review
- Using the Veil of Ignorance to align AI systems with principles of justice
- You can also have the option to look at the same two conferences as before but focused on encoding value systems.
- Look at the past few years of the “ACM Conference on Fairness, Accountability, and Transparency” and choose a paper that is of interest to you focused on encoding values. Read it and prepare a summary for class.
- Look at the past few years of the “AAAI/ACM Conference on AI, Ethics, and Society” and find a paper on encoding value systems that looks interesting to you. Read and prepare a summary for class.
